We see a large number of people with back pain in our Pinole office, and Dr. Jung has noticed that many cases of back pain start in the sacroiliac (SI) joint. Investigation shows that roughly 25% of all back pain originates in the SI joint, and now new research corroborates what we have observed in our clinic: chiropractic is an effective approach to treating this issue.
Research Supports Chiropractic Treatment Helps Increase Movement in the SI Joint
In the study published in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, 32 women with sacroiliac joint dysfunction were separated into two groups and asked to participate in one of two treatment therapies. The first group went through a chiropractic adjustment isolated to the sacroiliac joint, and the alternate group received an adjustment to the sacroiliac joint and the lumbar spine.
Specialists found greater improvements in both pain and movement immediately after treatment, two days post-treatment, and 30 days later for the patients who had been given high-velocity low-amplitude manipulation to both the sacroiliac joint and the lumbar spine. This asserts that chiropractic therapy administered in these two areas offers both prompt and lasting benefits for sacroiliac joint pain sufferers even after only one treatment round.
Therefore, if you are dealing with sacroiliac joint pain, or have back and leg pain and are ready to see if your sacroiliac joint is the root, a consultation at our Pinole office could be the first and best step towards feeling better. Give our office a call today at (510) 243-7500.

Over 2 million people are hurt each year in auto accidents in the U.S. While some people are able to heal from their injuries relatively easily, others are left to deal with chronic pain and disability. We see many of these patients here in our Pinole office. Thankfully, Dr. Jung is here to help you heal from your auto injury.
Research Supports Chiropractic Helps Prevent Chronic Pain After an Auto Accident
The science confirms what we see in our office: A British study was conducted on 28 individuals diagnosed with chronic whiplash pain. Each participant received chiropractic adjustments and 93 percent of them found relief following their adjustments, even though 43 percent of whiplash sufferers overall usually never find relief. This confirms that chiropractic care is a great way to avoid chronic pain after an auto injury.
It's important to remember that research has also found that delaying treatment after a car crash can adversely affect recovery time, so getting in to see Dr. Jung at the earliest opportunity is key to having a quicker recovery.

Although some people are still hesitant about chiropractic care, even the American Medical Association (AMA) suggests that adjustments should be tried prior to surgical treatment--the one option that should be a last resort.
Dr. Jung has seen many back pain patients in our Pinole office who have been hurting for years and who are worried that they might need an operation for their back pain. Dr. Jung has had great success in helping patients recover and avoid risky back surgery, and the science backs up our experience.
Research Proves Chiropractic Helps You Avoid Risky Surgery
For example, in one study conducted on about 2,000 Washington State employees who suffered from a back injury while on the job, more than 40% who saw a surgeon first following their injury found themselves having back surgery within three years. That compares to just 1.5% of the people who first sought treatment with chiropractic, demonstrating that this natural approach is extremely effective at keeping you out of the operating room.

The key to recovering from neck pain caused by a crash is to understand the root cause of the problem and how chiropractic care can help. Chiropractic can be very helpful for neck pain symptoms after a crash. Let's examine what causes neck pain and why chiropractic works. Chiropractic is a great way to treat neck pain. Let's look at how neck pain is caused by a crash and how Dr. Jung can help you.
It's not surprising that neck pain is the most common symptom experienced after a crash. Even in a collision, your head is rapidly thrown back and forth, so it's not surprising that neck pain is the most common symptom from this type of injury. Your neck is exposed to very high stresses and strains during a collision, so it's not surprising that neck pain is so common from this type of injury. During even a low speed wreck, your head is subjected to very rapid acceleration. In such crashes, a head that normally weighs about 10 pounds can instantly weigh eight times as much. This force exerts a severe strain on the tissues of the cervical spine. The bones of your neck are held together with strong bands of tissue called ligaments, and these ligaments provide stability for your neck. These ligaments can be sprained during a wreck, just as the ligaments in your ankle can be sprained. A sprain means that the ligament is stretched or torn.
When you experience a sprained ligament, the injured area gets swollen and painful, and that's what occurs after a car crash. Your chiropractor helps by increasing flexibility in the injured area, which helps the ligaments heal and helps reduce scar tissue.

We know how difficult persistent headache pain can be. Dr. Jung and our staff have worked with many people in our Pinole chiropractic practice, and we've had great success in helping patients reduce their headache pain.
Research Shows Chiropractic Helps With Cervicogenic Headaches
A 2016 research study verifies what we see in our practice. In this paper, the authors started with 110 people who were suffering with headaches that originated in the cervical spine. 58 of these patients were given a series of neck adjustments; 52 were given some stretches and exercises. The treatment period for both groups was four weeks.
The paper found that the patients who received cervical and thoracic spinal adjustments "experienced significantly greater reductions in headache intensity, disability, headache frequency, headache duration, and medication intake as compared to the group that received mobilization and exercise."
The study also found that these results were maintained at the three-month follow-up exam.

Chiropractic More Effective than Drugs for Back Pain
In our Pinole practice, Dr. Jung has helped many patients recover from back pain. If you are suffering from back pain, you've probably been tempted to take some medications to decrease the pain. You should understand that research indicates that chiropractic care is often a better approach than drugs when it comes to relieving this common type of pain.
In a 2013 study published in the journal Spine experts included 101 subjects who had experienced back pain for at least 48 hours. Each person was then assigned to one of three groups. The first group, which consisted of 37 patients, received chiropractic treatment and a placebo of the drug diclofenac. The second group of 38 patients received sham chiropractic treatments and the genuine drug. The third group of 25 people acted as the control as those individuals engaged in sham chiropractic and also received the placebo, thus having no real treatment at all.
All of the people who received some form of treatment, whether through chiropractic care or the medication, fared better than the control subjects who had no actual care. However, when the two active groups were compared to each other, the patients who received chiropractic adjustments had improvements that were "significantly better" than those who took the drug diclofenac.
Chiropractic Promotes Natural Healing
Because chiropractic is non-invasive and doesn't use drugs, it helps enhance healing without unwanted side effects. For example, NSAIDs can result in ulcers, high blood pressure, and other serious health concerns. Plus, the benefits of chiropractic last longer as it's intended to correct the source of the spinal interference, not just treat the symptoms.
If you're ready to get help for your back pain naturally, then chiropractic care is for you. Call and make an appointment in our Pinole office with Dr. Jung today at (510) 243-7500. We'll help improve your back pain in a healthy way!

How Headache Is Caused by an Auto Accident and How Dr. Jung Can Help You
There are many different kinds of headache. Headache that's triggered by an auto collision, though, usually begins as tension or strain in the muscle tissue of the cervical spine. In a crash, the neck muscles can be torn, which results in swelling and discomfort. These types of headache can be felt in different places, including the back of the head or even the temple.
Another frequent cause of pain after a collision that we see in our Pinole office is cervicogenic headache, or headaches that originate in injured ligaments of the neck. Ligament injury is very common after a crash, and it's important to get therapy for this type of problem to protect against the creation of scar tissue.

Many people suffer from headache pain, and tension headaches are a frequent problem in our busy lives. Postural problems and stress are common causes of tension headaches, and ones that Dr. Jung and the personnel here in our Pinole chiropractic office have a lot of experience in treating.
Research Proves Chiropractic Eases Tension Headaches
The scientific literature confirms our results: A 2016 study from Spain managed a group of 76 patients with chronic tension headaches. The participants were divided into four treatment groups: 19 patients were treated with suboccipital inhibition (the doctor presses on the tight tissues at the top of the spine); 19 with chiropractic adjustments; 19 with both adjustments and suboccipital inhibition; and 19 received no treatment.
The researchers found that the spinal adjustments were effective at relieving pain, and that the best results were found when spinal adjustments were mixed with the suboccipital inhibition.
When we get run down, the nerves and tissues in the neck can be disrupted, resulting in pain. Chiropractic works by getting rid of these strains and restoring the normal nerve function to the area.

Chiropractic is based on the concept of enabling your body to naturally heal through spinal adjustments and lifestyle changes that stimulate wellness. For Dr. Jung, this involves working to reestablish your body's healthy performance to avoid the need for drugs or surgical treatments. We find that many of our Pinole patients are relieved to find a natural approach for their health conditions.
One benefit of chiropractic care is that it helps people decrease or eliminate the use of narcotics. Prescription medications are commonly issued to individuals who have back soreness. This is such a significant concern that the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) issued a news release stating that opioid (painkiller) dangers overshadow the benefits when administered for back pain.
Some of the most well-known opiates, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, include hydrocodone (Vicodin), oxycodone (OxyContin and Percocet), morphine, and codeine. Figures supplied by the AAN cite the fact that roughly half of the people taking these drugs for a period of three months are still dependent on them five years down the road. This can further complicate the difficulty of back pain and healing, particularly if an opiate dependency occurs.
Contrast that to chiropractic care which involves natural healing and the advantages are crystal clear. While a drug might be helpful at briefly relieving the symptoms of a health condition, it's not a long-term solution to the problem. A drug won't mend your damaged back; it will only conceal the pain.
Dr. Jung will first examine you to get to the origin of your back pain and then work with you to correct the spinal interference -- without risky medications.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is a common condition after an auto injury, and it's something that Dr. Jung sees frequently in our Pinole office. Let's see why thoracic outlet syndrome is commonly experienced after an auto injury and see how chiropractic can help you get better.
The thoracic outlet is a bundle of blood vessels and nerves that travel through your neck and shoulder to your arm. These vessels don't have a lot of space, so they travel underneath and between the strong bands of muscles that support your head.
In a collision, these muscle groups can be stretched and strained. If damaged, the muscles become swollen and sore, and they can develop scar tissue which restricts movement and puts stress on the tissues of the thoracic outlet. Pressure on the nerves can cause tingling or numbness in the shoulder, elbow and even the hand. Pressure on the blood vessels can also cause problems in the arm.
